Wireless network lets objects talk back
A computer system that gives inanimate objects the power
to talk back has been developed by US researchers. The system is designed
to help engineers and maintenance workers check a piece of equipment by
literally talking to it. Project researcher Yacop Genc, at Siemens laboratory
in Princeton, New Jersey, says workers could start using the system in
a real working environment by mid-2002.

AvantGO gets a patent
Yahoo’s Daily News Technology section is carrying
a story reporting that AvantGo has received a patent for its synchronization
technology . And here’s an excerpt: "In legal jargon, AvantGo said the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had issued it patent No. 6,341,316 covering
the system, method and computer program product for synchronizing content
between a server and a client." Why didn’t I think of this?

sulla tecnologia, per cui Verizon usa lo standard americano CDMA2000 1xx, mentre Vodafone ovviamente utilizzerà UMTS;
negli USA e quanto sarà effettivamente veloce sotto carico. CDMA2000 è
una tecnologia 2.5G.
